Overview
It is our pleasure to welcome you all to the homepage of the Department of Geology at the Faculty of Science - Suez Canal University. Geology is the study of the Earth, the material it's made of the structure of those materials and the processes acting upon them. It includes the study of living creatures that inhabited our planet. The most important part in geology is how to change Earth materials, structures, processes and its living creatures through time. We enable our students to understand the history of our planet because the more they understand Earth’s history, the better they can predict how events and processes of the past might influence the future.
Vision
The department aims to support the Egyptian society with providing qualified graduates in various earth sciences who are able to follow and prepare environmental and geophysical studies related to research and exploration of our natural wealth and buried treasures of mineral, benzene, and archaeological resources as well as our water resources and solving the problems of environmental pollution of Water. Moreover, it increases research related to urban planning, land reclamation, and beach protection and reduces environmental risks through distinctive educational and research programs approved by the national and local level to be a destination for the development of the Egyptian community in general and the Canal and Sinai regions in particular.
Mission
The department focuses on preparing qualified graduates to work in various fields of earth sciences. In addition, it gives the students organized scientific thinking to play an effective role in solving environmental problems and to be able to innovate in their work field in the Suez Canal and Sinai in particular and in Egypt in general. It makes the graduates able to compete professionally with others at the national level.

- Faculty’s requirements are (30 credit hours) includes:
- 18 credit hours (obligatory), divided equally into (Chemistry- Physics- Mathematics) courses, for both semesters (9 hours+ 9 hours)
- 12 credit hours (elective), chosen from faculty’s other majors, which serve students’ majors (Geology- Zoology- Botany- Applied Geo physics- Marine biology- Marine sciences- Microbiology). They’re divided equally on both semesters (6 hours+ 6 hours)
- Majors’ requirements: 108 credit hours, divided as follows, on 3rd’, 4th, and 5th levels:
- 72 credit hours (obligatory)
- 36 credit hours (elective)

Not only can this lead to an increased sense of self-fulfillment, but it can also be a great way to secure a rewarding career in the Geology field. Geology is a field that students can study in order to acquire a distinct understanding of the earth and the way it was created.
